At the core of our mission is the commitment to empower underprivileged children in South Africa, guided by the principle of "Empower Today, Transform Tomorrow." XHUMA's primary objectives are to provide comprehensive financial education and essential life skills to these young adults. Through these transformative efforts, XHUMA seeks to disrupt the cycle of poverty by arming students with the knowledge and tools necessary for making informed financial decisions and profound choices with regard to their future career as well as fostering positive contributions to society. Ultimately, XHUMA aspires to empower today's youth, enabling them to shape a brighter tomorrow.
Since its inception in 2012, XHUMA, born from the dedication of Master of International Strategy and Management (SIM) students at the University of St. Gallen, has achieved remarkable success, propelled by the unwavering passion of international student cohorts. Central to its mission are the Money Game, LiftOff Lab, and XHUMA Mentoring. The Money Game is a cornerstone program that imparts crucial financial literacy by immersing pupils in real-world financial scenarios, challenging them to make informed choices on spending, investing, and saving. The LiftOff Lab equips pupils with valuable soft and hard skills, while the XHUMA Mentoring connects them with university students fostering a positive attitude towards education.
Each previous generation built upon the foundation and worked on developing the project and expanding its impact. Previous initiatives organized sponsorship programs for saving plans targeting local mothers, workshops on international commerce, and a legacy fund, while continuously involving the school teachers, partners and other students to ensure continuity and long-term results.
Looking ahead to 2024, XHUMA is expanding its reach to younger pupils, guiding them in choosing the courses needed for university eligibility and motivating them towards education by connecting them with university students. For this purpose, a new collaboration with Stellenbosch University is set to launch. Additionally, XHUMA aims to strengthen its impact by involving parents in our efforts. Through an evening workshop, we will encourage parents to actively support and motivate their children to pursue educational opportunities.
Addressing the low rates of students pursuing higher education, increasing family support, and motivating and guiding pupils towards a brighter future are XHUMA's main targets. The impact will not be limited to the period in which the XHUMA team will be physically present in South Africa, but rather extended to a long-term perspective, which will be continued by the local mentors and guided by the team's support throughout the year.
