It is estimated that there are between 500,000 and 1,000,000 stray dogs and an even larger number of stray cats on the streets in Romania. Fortunately, FureverHome, a small NGO based in Carei, Romania, has made it their mission to rescue and care for these animals.
Today, FureverHome shelters over 400 animals, including 87 dogs and hundreds of cats, many of which were abandoned or mistreated in the rural areas surrounding Carei. However, as the shelter’s population continues to grow, so do the costs associated with food, shelter, medication and disease prevention. Wintertime in Romania is especially challenging.
And so, SIM4PAWS was created, joining the ranks of exciting SIMagination projects.
Our goal is to improve living conditions for the rescued animals by helping to build and upgrade shelter facilities, ensuring a safe and warm environment year-round. Our project also emphasizes long-term social awareness and behavioural change. By using social media campaigns, storytelling, and local community initiatives, we aim to raise public consciousness about animal welfare, promote responsible pet ownership, and encourage adoption over abandonment. Specifically, we aim to develop an online adoption platform, and aid in the management of existing social media channels to ensure consistent communication and engagement with prospective adopters and donors.
Through these combined efforts, the project aspires to create a sustainable framework for compassion and responsibility toward animals, contributing meaningfully to life on land and the coexistence between humans and animals.
