SIMentoring

Students supporting inclusion and integration in local communities.

SIMentoring is a student-led initiative focusing on refugee integration in Swiss society through mentorship and language classes. This allows them to better adapt to their new country and obtain work in Switzerland more easily in the future.

We have already partnered with Essen für Alle, which helped us with the location of our Kick-off event last year. In our last iteration, we managed to match 12 pairs of mentors and mentees using the help of HSG students who volunteered to help the cause. Through the improvement of refugee integration, we aim to tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goals numbers 1 No Poverty; 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth; and 10 Reduced Inequalities.

This year we aim to expand our language classes, deepen our current relationships with our partners, increase the number of impacted refugees, and create a more streamlined version of the process used by the past generation.

  • We are focusing on driving the inclusion and integration of refugees and migrants in Switzerland by using the learnings of foreign NGOs.
  • We seek to address the UN Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) 1 (No Poverty) by allowing refugees and immigrants to lift themselves out of poverty by acquiring essential skills to make a living in Switzerland.
  • We also partner with Essen für Alle which provides food for all in Zurich, to help reduce hunger in communities with limited financial means, in link with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).
  • SIMentoring also aims at reducing inequalities, as defined by the UN Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), by supporting newcomers in accessing better opportunities.
  • The ultimate aim of our project is to support refugees and immigrants in obtaining decent work, to support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
  • In order to achieve these goals, we aim at establishing networks of language and cultural support and potential workshops based on the needs of refugees and immigrants.
